Bambook and Netzell ft Cari Golden ‘What’s the Use’ – review on Pulse

Bambook & Netzell ft Cari Golden - What's The Use

“Rolling effortlessly, it’s juxtaposition of the track’s incessant charm and immediacy with Golden’s spoken word delivery is the key to its success, particularly the similarity her delivery draws with the infamous stalker on Lil Louis’ timeless ‘I called You’. It’s not hard to see why Maceo Plex built many of his stadium slaying sets of last year around it.”

Circus recordings continues a fine run of form with a bamboozler from Bambook and Netzell, Cari Golden delivering a great spoken word vocal. The clubnight has a couple of crackers lined up for Easter Weekend as well, Good Friday at Egg London and then the Camp & Furnace up here in Liverpool for Easter Sunday.

And this recent set from Yousef at Circus is something of an instant classic.

DSC_2494

Yousef’s 21st Century House Music radio show is always a great vantage point to check out some of the killer tracks around in house music, but the latest instalment is a bit different in that it featured an hour from his set at Circus‘ Boxing Day showcase at the Camp & Furnace. Acid Mondays Interview on Pulse

“Ibiza is forever changing, and evolving. This summer was great, Circo Loco was our favourite party, great vibe there this year but there were nights like Enter, Music On and El Row that bought something fresh to the table. Also a lot more daytime/beach parties this year which is great as you cant beat partying outside in the sun.”

First ever article up on Pulse, speaking to Acid Mondays ahead of them playing for Circus in Liverpool and London this month. Hit the quote as usual. Exclusive mix with the story as well.

Circus brings last ever LBS shows in Liverpool & London

HYPE!

Circus has not one but two of the final ever dates of Laurent Garnier’s LBS project lined up for one memorable weekend at the end of the month. Head down to London on the Friday 30th November where they have him on at the Egg alongside Yousef and Acid Mondays, with Saturday 1st in Liverpool Julio Bashmore, Guti and HotSince82 among the starlets. For the latter you can pick NUS tickets up at my favourite Boozer; the Font.

LG is of course arguably the most mesmerisingly brilliant DJ of all time, a true master who brings an effortless guile and flair to his signature style of trance tinged melody drenched techno which has the capacity to steer towards more eclectic territories. The LBS project sees him interpolating live elements into his DJ sets to usual rapturous responses (although I witnessed loads of mullteed Spanish whopper departing at set at Timewarp in disgust due to him playing dubstep), but he has recently announced 2012 will be the end of it. Which is sad!

Anyway if you’re in the capital of the country or the capital of boss over this weekend then you’d be worse placed than to take part in this epic slab of historical raving. When he drops this it might even make you cry.

Guy J Interview on Data Transmission & Circus London Fri 27th Oct

“Every place has its own style of music or its own way to react to music and that is what is so inspiring about all this. There are places I go and beforehand I’m working on music specifically for that place and those people – music that is inspired by my experiences, that I feel belongs to these places.”

I spoke to Guy J ahead of him dropping by the Egg in London this weekend for Circus for Data Transmission, clicking on the quote as ever takes you straight to the feature.

The event in question is the launch party for Yousef’s sophomore album ‘A Product of Your Environment’, with Yousef and Guy joined by Luca Bachetti, Jon Rundell and Lewis Boardman.

Yousef also recently released two videos, one which previously got a mention here and the other for ‘For the Terraces’ which takes in the sunk issed shores of Ibiza, a certainly different approach to the Liverpool focused approach on ‘Feel the Same thing’. Check that out below.

Yousef ‘Feel The Same Thing’ out Now On Circus Recordings

Yousef’s ‘Feel The Same Thing’ is out on Circus Recordings and the video, done by Liverpool company Beatbox, is up on Youtube as well (see above). Head over to Beatport to get the track but those of you with a knowledge of certain Liverpool ‘landmarks’ might be quite familiar with the terrain showcased in the video.

Gone Clubbin’ #1: October – on BnB now

“You simply cannot pick a bigger or more influential event to hit clubland in Liverpool than the original superclub, the place where I and thousands of others fell in love with dance music.”

I’ve started a brand new column on Beatsandbeyond.com where I pick the best clubbing picks, in my eyes, each month in Liveprool. I did do this originally on here back in January but this will now be a monthly thing over on BnB – I’ve even got my own Editors profile and everything.

BnB Interview: Russell Reid

“It was quite and open brief, so I started experimenting with gelling images of humans, animals and random objects together until they looked twisted and often quite disturbed. They loved the designs and the rest is history.”

As mentioned previously, I was going to be interviewing Russ Reid of Wasted Heroes ahead fo the #CircusX celebrations this weekend. The result was an insightful look into the world of club design. Hit the quote to head to the interview.

Wasted Heroes & Circus X

There’s an oft forgotten role in clubland. Whilst we move to the sounds of DJs, crowd around in clubs, and give our money to the promoters wily enough to orchestrate it all for us, one role is crucial in garnering our attention in the first place – the graphic designer. One of those who has had a particularly dynamic role in clubland is Russell Reid, who is undergoing something of a furtive period right now. As the lead designer for Circus for nigh on the entirety of their ten years, he’s been responsible for iconic designs such as the following masterpiece:

Russ has a three day epic weekend rolling up for his wares and club involvement, with Circus turning ten with two shows In London and Liverpool and him hosting Space’s El Salon for the We Love closing party on Sunday 30th September. Featuring at the shows are the likes of Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Bicep (who headline El Salon at Space), Sascha Dive, Yousef (obviously) and Riva Starr, whilst a gluttony of artists have been pcitured wearing Russ’ eye catching Circus X merchandise in recent months. One of them being a rather well know grinning superstar who appears at the top of this page.

I’ll be posting more details in the upcoming days on some interviews with Russ as well as one or two places you can win some of his clobber. However until then head over to the Wasted Heroes website and the Circus X merchandise mini-site if you want to get your hands on the clothing sooner.

Head here for full details for Circus London with Yousef, Riva Starr, Sascha Dive and more.

The Liverpool counterpart with Sasha, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Yousef, Davide Squillace and Lewis Boardman is via this link.
