Kendrick Lamar and Rapsody ’27 bars of Genius’ (Getintothis article)

Screenshot

To Pimp a Butterly is rapidly becoming the most discussed album of the year, Kendrick Lamar’s mammoth opus igniting the literary love from all corners. I’ve absolutely loved it to death (you can vist my review here) but the early release did stunt me a little from a writing perspective. I’d penned close to 1500 words of a eulogy to Lamar for Getintothis about whether he could follow on from good kid MAADD CITY which I was due to polish into a final article the week commencing only to get a etxt saying the album was out early on Spotify. As I excitedly listened to the brilliant new album part of me was proper gutted that this meant the end for my words, which it turned out, were prophetic. Only me and my laptop knew this though…

Even though some of that went into the review I wrote, I still felt like I needed to really shine a light on a different component of the album, and the more and more I listened to it the more and more I was drawn to Rapsody’s verse. It was so beguiling because it was understated dopeness, not the instant standout verse on the album but still one that just became more and more interesting the more I listened to it, one of the many layers and textures to the release that had still not been truly picked up (to my knowledge at least) by critics.

So I started writing about it, and mindful of already missing out on getting my point across I tried to come at a different angle as possible. It’s weird really that I could wrench 2000 words about a single verse on an album so jam packed full of ideas, but everything from the lyrics up to the decision to even enlist her spoke volumes about the concept of the LP and how it fits in the lexicon of great hip hop releases. The fact a woman was the only person who properly guest rapped on the album differs from hip hop; every solo guest of real punch has always been a man, which says so much about the dominance of men in the genre despite a plethora of great female rappers.

The reception was by far and away the best I’ve ever had for an article, 9th Wonder retweeting it on a  few occasions, Rapsody herself tweeting at me saying she was honoured (below) and sharing on her Facebook (above). It’s also something I’ve not seen mentioned elsewhere, although once I’d written the piece I read this interview on Complex where she talked about how a lot of the thematic similarities were a coincidence. Normally that kind of assertion reaks of bullshit but I thoroughly believe her, and it blows my mind about the verse even more.

Read the piece here.

“New York’s first overtly mainstream gangster rapper with some of the most ludicrously enjoyable wordplay to boot”

It’s 20 years to the day since the Notorious BIG drop kicked the world with one of the greatest LPs ever. To cleebrate a man who may very well be the greatest of all time, I wrote a lengthy love in on Getintothis about the album and what it’s meant. Hit the quote above to see it. RIP Chris Wallace

Photo: American 1st Lady – Michelle Obama announcing via Satellite that ‘Argo’ had won Best Picture at the 2013 Academy Awards on Sunday 24th February accompanied by members of the Military in very dashing uniforms.

I have great interest in Cinema & it’s deliberate technique in bringing new ideas/morality especially into The Western Developed World. So, when ‘Argo’ was available to watch at my local Picture House, I decided NOT to watch it as the Trailer made it quite clear why it’s Propaganda… “Actions of Iran have shocked the civilized world“:

– –

I decided to use the español subtitled Trailer as this shows the influence that America specificity Hollywood has on the world. Hollywood risked its reputation in agreeing to assist in the extraction of American Diplomats/Spy’s out of Tehran in 1979 but now wants the recognition for services done for the good of the nation. Hence this current 1st Lady’s historic announcement with members of the Military behind her.

Also, it’s designed to send a direct message to the entire population of Iran, around 75 million people, THAT Hollywood & The White House are now bezzie mates, meaning if they don’t start submitting to direct orders from Washington D.C then they will lose on the Battlefield. And they will also lose the sympathy of the ordinary zombizoid masses of The Western World whom worship celebrity, with Hollywood at the apex of this particular pyramid.

‘Argo’ receiving this award should now galvanise the majority of the population of Iran back to it’s political/military class objective around Nuclear Power*, even when suffering from some of the toughest international sanctions since the apartheid regime of 1980’s South Africa. A Film wining an Oscar® for Best Picture should simply be seen as an accolade in the cinematic domain, yet the achievement of ‘Argo’ should worry many as it now seems it’s fine to make big-budget productions that show non-western people as simpletons that can be tricked by even the most outlandish subterfuge. This is the Iranian perspective of ‘Argo’… seeing as the film is based in their country:

It seems Hollywood will make big-budget films on any subject no matter how unusual, yet oddly it hasn’t made a single one surrounding the Apollo 11 Moon Landing – seen by many as America’s greatest ever achievement, which happened 44 years ago. After clicking this you’ll realize why Hollywood would rather deal with fanatical Iranians, talking Robots from ‘Cybertron’, old men in action-films & posh plum-speaking wizards.

They say Hollywood as a place is full of liberals, I disagree and argue it is full of contradiction courtesy of the finest cocaine. An Industry that gave it’s highest award to ‘Argo’ could have serious consequences for humanity. We like our classic Hip-Hop on GeneralJimmy.com so this perfectly sums up ‘Argo’ winning THAT award:

*Note: According to the current Iranian Government, research into Nuclear Power is strictly for civilian/population energy use & NOT for Military purposes. Iran also allows The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to regularly inspect it’s facilities.

Darren’s Alterantive New Year Message

Darren drops another slab of left-thinking wisdom in time for you t embrace other theories of thought in 2013. Read below…

Since April 2012, I’ve been going to places other less experienced operatives would find either highly difficult or even impossible, and after each mission I am thanked by my Commander-in-Chief General Jimmy yet told that my tendency for detail whilst impressive can at times mean a decrease in efficiency.

I guess it’s all about being to the point but with still maintaining to keep it 100

So, with it being the start of a new year what do I present… The gift of enlightenment.

Make of the following what YOU will but I estimate after viewing this specific section you might understand how a Fighter Jet Pilot feels AFTER clicking that red Ejector-Seat button:

Time for YOU to Eject, please click?.

Well what about that then, normally I’d go into detail but the verbal along with non-verbal communication is highly intriguing stuff even to the unaware.

My New Year Message is rather simple…
Enjoy, now cause this just might become the new National Anthem come 2013..!!

Stop trying to be everybody’s friend, the 21st December 2012 is coming..!!

One of the things I despised in my youth was the American S**tcom – ‘Friends
[1994 – 2004].

This was due to it’s worrying depiction of New York City being an oasis of White People, when in reality the same period of time was the apex of a certain Sean Combs that just happened to also come from Manhattan.

This being, a prime example of his purple patch circa 1995…

Now, I am NOT saying that if you the reader enjoyed or still watch endless repeats of the show on Channel4 [UK National Television Station] that you’re a subconscious white supremacist – instead replace the racism with a predilection for being rather bland and lacking any individuality. Get the picture… you don’t at the moment but hopefully by the time you’ve pondered this article you’ll start to question yourself, possibly for the first time.

Now the thing with ‘Friends’ was that it had the same impact of Swine Flu, able to take over vast amounts of people due to one person in a collective having ‘the infection’ then spreading it via word of mouth to others.

Everybody began recreating scenes giving exact synopsis of the latest episode leading to some bizarre acts of one-upmanship I’ve seen, going a little bit like an actual incident that happened in the common room during my Sixth form days:

Alan: ‘Joey, goes on the phone to that Phoebe where’s me $20 that I lent you in the Coffee Shop? If you haven’t got it then you best Toss me Salad as Chandler is getting his leg over tonight at Monica’s. Phoebe then goes if you give me another $20 I’ll lick your feet..!! That bird is proper off her head’.

Barbara: ‘No, you got it wrong she told Joey for another $20 she would swallow him & and let Ross watch but they both laughed as Ross is a clown’.

Alan: ‘You sure?’

Barbara: ‘I am sure cos’ I was giving you head whilst it was on but you weren’t paying any attention, as always’.

The impact of ‘Friends’ has delivered comedy for people that simply out of desperation want to connect with as many people as possible. Rebellion isn’t cool any longer it’s now all about conformity. Resulting in…

Now Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant in my book seem like quite good people as they’ve possibly realized that they have acquired millions of fans – sorry sad bastards, sorry dick-riders – that think even when they blink it’s funny. Hence them creating a show in which their friend goes around the world on an all-expenses paid whilst they sit in a studio, watching the footage, and laughing at his stupidity.

Erm… didn’t we see something with a very similar format years BEFORE on MTV, except this was far more creative and & enjoyable:

Yet, good on Gervais, Merchant, Pilkington & and now Willow thee Heroic Dwarf for making as much money as possible living the Global V.I.P Jet-Set life. At least these four aren’t in positions of power supposedly representing the people, particularly those in poverty, by living extravagant lifestyles on the blag.

Bland UK Comedy 1 – America’s 1st Family™ 0

I’m not all about criticism as I do at times deliver solutions & and this costs no money whatsoever.

On Friday 21st December 2012 at 11am (1100hrs) UK Time, the Earth will complete it’s 20,000+ year journey reaching the centre of the Milky Way. Yet, this information wasn’t obtained by BBC Science Poster Boy Professor of Particle Physics Brian Cox but by an ancient culture: the Mayan Civilization of what is known today as Mexico.

To know about Astrophysics you need electricity, then Information Technology for precise data to declare dates of The Universe including Planets. No evidence currently exists that shows these highly mathematical people had such equipment yet the question remains; how did they uncover such information? Time-Travel, perhaps?

Evidence of such being provided by the exquisite artwork on the tomb of Mayan Ruler:

K’inich Janaab’ Pakal.

ss

If you aren’t even willing to consider the possibility that the above is some sort of Spaceship then you really have watched far toooo many episodes of ‘Friends’!!

All I can advise you is that perhaps on Friday 21st December 2012, Humanity hopefully will connect with something on a mass yet also individual basis that raise our interest to such an extent we will no longer accept sh**e Television & plastic celebrities.

We must remember that diversity is the key along with having an open-mind to at least investigate the possibilities of life or would you rather pay to be one in an audience of fellow thousand zombizoids laughing at Michael McIntyre trying to be funny but never even coming close to succeeding.

Allow yourself to let the Ancient connect with the 21st Century explained in the below brilliant YouTube:

Complex’s 120 Worst Rapper Names

Follow the link. It also includes amazing album covers like the Pen & Pixel atrocity from Big Bear and press shots of awful looking rappers like The Teriyaki Boyz below. ODB brethren Shorty Shit Stain gets a mention too, which is never a bad thing.

Darren steps to Young Money

Young Money might very soon become NO Money.

As Summer turns in Autumn or as they say in America ‘The Fall‘, it seems the latter might occur to the Young Money Empire that’s headlined by the following…

ldn

It started with Drake deciding that it would be perfectly fine to produce & include himself in various out-takes along with unfinished tracks that he purchased by the deceased R&B Legend – Aaliyah.

This lead to a Public Statement from the Family of Aaliyah distancing themselves from this posthumous album in some manner due to Drake not asking for their blessing:

Rolling Stone – ‘Aaliyah’s Family Not Involved With New Drake-Led Album Project’.

Über Hip-Hop Record Producer & Genius Timberland along with Missy Elliott as well-known friends with Aaliyah instantly made it known that they wanted nothing to do with Drake’s project.

As murmuring of unhappiness where being directed towards Canada’s best Rapper his Label Colleague & Boss made perhaps one of the biggest Own-Goals in Hip-Hop History…

This dis from the same Lil Wayne that made the colab with Jay-Z ironically called…
‘Hello Brooklyn 2.0’.

To distance yourself from the major entertainment market & Media Hub that’s New York City would cause a reaction yet it even became Political…

It must be noted that when big-time Rappers have spoken negativity towards major American Cities the results have been lethal & tragic..!!

Then the final part of this comedy of errors came from the most Plastic & even being more *surreal than anybody on the Young Money stable – Nicki Minaj.

In, this American Election Year that sees it’s 1st African-American President looking for a 2nd Term guess what she ‘spits’ (appropriate word) on wax. Please be warned, you’ll have to rewind this to believe she actually thought this was cool…

For an African-American Celebrity especially in Popular Music to declare opposition towards President Obama in support for his rival to The White House – Mitt Romney is on-par with thinking it’s clever to wear a Man Utd Home Shirt in the Liverpool end of a Football (Soccer) Stadium.

It will be interesting to see if any maturity along with business skills return at Young Money due to their Summer of total madness that might possibly become a very harsh winter, never to possibly recover?

Ohhh… this is why I used the Asterisk (*) in the above article was in relation to this…

Lil Wayne ponders on his influence within Culture & History compared to a certain Steve Jobs – Founder of Apple..!!

Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap – Showing at FACT

Starting from tomorrow, FACT show’s this rather well received documentary on hip-hop from the original gangster rapper, Ice-T. It’s a personal and intimate encounter with the rap legends in the cold blooded rapper’s phone book – it’s hip-hop viewed purely through his personal prism. Full details are here, and the trailer is below.

Dig this as well to showcase how the rapper is still in the news for his vitriolic assessments. Still the don.

Hip-Hop samples

Nice little video pointing out some very obvious samples in hip-hop alongside some lesser known ones.

Hip-Hop Documentaries

I spent the entire jubilee weekend partying and djing, which I guess is what the Queen would of wanted. In-between it all however I invested some serious time watching hip-hop documentaries and films, after an old friend of mine wrote a blog post on the above compelling documentary about the Wu Tang Clan

Such is the great suggestion mechanic behind Youtube (go w’ed Google) that I ended up watching loads of other films. One was so shit I had to turn it off (this awful attempt at explaining 2Pac selling his soul) but two were at the very least watchable; the above about Shakur and the below about Biggie Smalls. And some were so good they deserve a thread all of their own, incoming this week…
