Alpines & Maya Jane Coles cover Carly SImon

Alpines prod. Maya Jane Coles – Why by Alpines

The Alpines have been knocking out some lush pop over the past year or so, their glacial approach tying in rather nicely with their name and probably best surmised by their track ‘Cocoon’. Here they team up with one of the success stories of 2011, Maya Jane Coles, for a cover of the Chic produced and Paradise Garage and Balearic anthem ‘Why’ by Carly Simon. I’ve always loved the original (I even have a bit of a soft spot for the Glamma Kid and Shola Ama track that used it as a centrepiece) and this is a faithful effort, similair in scope to the Tensnake remix Maya contributed earlier this year which I blogged about here.

It’s not the first time Maya’s got to grips with the band, she also reworked ‘Cocoon’ under her Nocturnal Sunshine guise. Also check another cover from the group; this time stripping back Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’ with gorgeous reverential melancholy here.
